2016 - Valand / SRK COLLABORATION

In 2016 River of Light had its main base at Valand, Gothenburg University in the wood workshop and the performance event and some public workshops also took place at A-Venue. 150 lanterns were made in celebration of Valand's 150th and Swedish Red Cross 100th birthday. River of Light also partnered with B-Arts Staffordshire and the lantern procession was accompanied by Kiriaka.

We gathered for the procession at 16.00 on the 20th of February, UN’s World Day of Social Justice at Götaplatsen to light the lanterns. After that we walked through the city and the procession ended at A-venue on Avenyn at around 18.00 with soup and bread and festivities. We worked with international youth and children living in Gothenburg, many of them who just arrived from Kurdistan, Syria and Afghanistan, and created lanterns together with students and staff from Valand.
